Baby showers are one of the most memorable and meaningful experiences you’ll have as you travel the path of parenthood, but health concerns amidst the COVID-19 pandemic have made it difficult to hold in-person gatherings comfortably.
However, that doesn’t mean that you need to cancel your baby shower plans altogether. In today’s post, we’re going to provide you with three creative ideas you can use to throw a fun, memorable, and safe baby shower. If you need an event venue in Houston, get in touch with Alegria Gardens to learn more about how we’re keeping guests and staff safe as we celebrate responsibly.
Three Creative Baby Shower Ideas
Drive-By Shower
Drive-by gatherings aren’t just great for baby showers — graduations, birthdays, and even weddings have all been celebrated with drive-by parades of friends and family members. The driveway is often decorated with balloon arches and other fun decorations, and each guest can drop off a gift and visit from a safe distance. Many parents-to-be are holding virtual unboxing parties once the in-person visits have come to an end. While it’s certainly not the same as physically sitting down to open presents in the presence of your friends and family, it’s still a safe and fun way to bring everyone together.
Tip: If your baby shower has a long guest list, then you may want to consider staggering visits to prevent congestion in your neighborhood!
Outdoor Celebration
In-person gatherings aren’t out of the question, provided that you maintain strict boundaries and ensure that everyone on the guest list agrees to follow them. Many people are holding in-person showers in backyards, parks, and other outdoor spaces that allow for at least 6 feet of distance between guests.
Masks should be mandatory, even if you stay outdoors the entire time. If you want to make mask-wearing a bit more festive, try ordering themed masks that you can make available to everyone as they arrive for the event. Some parents are surprising guests by revealing their baby’s gender using the color of the masks they provide!
Tip: If you choose to throw the shower at a home, keep in mind that guests may need to use the restroom or go inside for other reasons. Think about your comfort level and make your expectations clear when you send out your invitations.
Postponed Shower
At Alegria Gardens, we don’t like thinking about COVID-related disruptions as permanent cancellations; instead, we like to frame them as postponed events that will eventually happen, even if we have to wait until 2021 or 2022. If none of the ideas we’ve discussed resonate with you, then it may be worthwhile to postpone your shower and give yourself something to look forward to in the future.
We’re currently taking reservations for events in 2021 and 2022 at lower-than-ever rates. We are closely following state and federal COVID-19 safety guidelines to keep our guests and staff safe, and we would love to discuss the possibility of reserving one of our event venues for a postponed baby shower.
